Custom Ink was launched in 2000 (as CustomInk) by former college classmates Marc Katz, Dave Christensen, Mike Driscoll, and Andrew Moss. In November 2013, Custom Ink received $40 million from Revolution Growth, the investment fund run by Steve Case, Ted Leonsis, and Donn Davis.

The Custom Ink story began in 1999 when three former college classmates got the bug to start a business about a year after graduating. Co-founder and CEO Marc Katz was hard at work in a Wall Street job that he says “didn't have a lot of heart” and was itching to do something entrepreneurial and meaningful.

Industry experts estimate that Custom Ink, which has $400 million in annual revenue, has a value of greater than $500 million. The exiting shareholders include Revolution Growth, co-founded by sports mogul Ted Leonsis, and SWaN & Legend, led by Fred Schaufeld.
